Week Five: March 10th – 15th

I am sad to say that this will be my final blog because we were sent home. After our long trip through Northern Ireland our professor gave us Tuesday as a day to recover from our trip. Emma, Jordyn, and I went into Galway Tuesday afternoon, we got our nails done and did some shopping. After getting back I did some laundry, watched The Bachelor, and read for my literature class for the next day. On Wednesday, I survived my literature class and prepared to head to Scotland. Thursday, we had our culture class where we learned a few more songs on the tin whistle. I couldn’t wait to leave for Scotland, so class went by very slowly. Unfortunately, we had to cancel this trip. When the President announced the travel ban on Wednesday, we could feel that the end of our program was near. On Thursday, we were just a few hours from leaving for Scotland and UNK informed us that they were not going to allow us to go. Thursday afternoon, a group of us went into Galway to do some souvenir shopping. We also did some grocery shopping and as we were standing in the check out line at the grocery store, we found out that we were being sent home. This was not an easy email to read. Later that evening, we had a meeting in Marta’s cottage and the university informed her that they were bringing us home on Sunday. Saturday was filled with packing and saying our goodbyes. That evening we made as much food as we had left in our fridge and had a huge potluck! After our potluck, John Paul opened up the bar and invited a couple of locals in for us to all hang out with. We had to be on the bus at 2:45am that night. When we arrived at the airport in Dublin at 6am, there were already long lines to check our bags and get through security. Our flight was delayed three hours and we didn’t actually get up in the air until around noon. We landed in New Jersey later that afternoon and caught another flight that evening to Omaha. My boyfriend picked me up at the airport and just like that, my study abroad adventures came to an end.
